Mountain States represented by eight honorees for 40 Under Forty recognition

Steph DominyJOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – Mountain States was well-represented at the recent 40 Under Forty awards, with eight team members recognized as rising stars in the local business community.

The 40 Under Forty recognition is given each year by The Business Journal of the Tri-Cities Tennessee/Virginia to 40 members of the business community under the age of 40 who are making a positive impact both in their professional lives as well as through community leadership or involvement. Recipients were honored at gala at The Millennium Centre and then are featured in the December issue of The Business Journal.

 Steph Dominy, MPH, MBA, MSPharm, FACHE, is chief operating officer for Mountain States Medical Group – part of Mountain States Health Alliance offering 350-plus providers in more than 100 locations. She has been with MSMG for six years, serving as the chief financial officer prior to being COO. Known for her strong leadership, dependability, positive attitude and her big smile, Dominy also supports causes like United Way and the American Heart Association, served on the local board of the Susan G. Komen for a several years, and supported the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s “Light the Night.”

 Brooke Graham is manager of Human Resources at Franklin Woods Community Hospital and Woodridge Hospital. She oversees recruitment and retention, policy and procedure compliance as well as employee relations and engagement at the facility operations level for the two hospitals, serving more than 650 team members. She completed her MBA in 2015 from King University while continuing to work full-time and be a mother of twin baby boys. Brooke has served as a volunteer soccer coach for the Johnson City Parks and Rec, helped organize several major Easter and Halloween public events at Franklin Woods, and supported the Mountain States Foundation’s Dragon Boat Festival.

 Molly Luton is corporate director of marketing & communications at Mountain States. She oversees and coordinates marketing strategy for the entire health system. She has served as director of marketing & communications for Mountain States’ Northeast Region (three hospitals in SWVa) and then for Washington County, Tenn. She helped facilitate grand openings for two new replacement hospitals (Johnston Memorial in 2011 and Smyth County Community Hospital in 2012). Luton has been a member of local chambers of commerce, Emory & Henry Young Alumni Council and the MSHA Leadership Academy. Outside of work, she has donated her time to the Johnston Memorial Hospital Foundation, United Way, Rotary Club and Susan G. Komen For The Cure Tri-Cities as Pink Tie Gala Chairwoman.

 Joshua McFall is assistant administrator/chief financial officer for Franklin Woods Community Hospital and Woodridge Hospital. He oversees the hospitals’ finances and helps develop facility strategic initiatives and manage capital equipment purchases. He joined Mountain States in 2009 as a financial analyst and quickly rose through the ranks to become a corporate senior financial analyst for special projects and forecasting before being chosen as CFO in 2014. He is a past trustee at Bentley’s Chapel Baptist Church, an active member of Tri-Cities Baptist Church, has served as a volunteer for the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life, and is on the Washington County United Way Finance Allocation Committee.

 Chris Miller is associate administrator and chief experience and outcome officer at Johnson City Medical Center. He leads key initiatives at the hospital in patient experience and in Lean improvement projects, and works closely with hospital-based outpatient services. He serves as a deacon at Hermitage Baptist Church, and is commissioned with Samaritan’s Purse World Medical Missions, which places Christian physicians, dentists, and other medical professionals in short-term service at mission hospitals and clinics in Africa, Asia, Oceania, Latin America and the Middle East. Chris and his family also volunteer with Second Harvest Food Bank of Northeast Tennessee. He also enjoys coaching several community and recreational league children’s teams.

 Tanzid Shams, MD, is a neurohospitalist and Director of Neurology at Johnson City Medical Center. He is helping establish a neurology team at JCMC, a much-needed medical service to the area. In his role, he manages all ED, ICU and inpatient neurological consultations and is helping the hospital obtain Primary Stroke Center Certification. He specializes in sports concussions and has done extensive research and made national presentations on the topic. His volunteer experience includes serving on the international medical staff for AAN missions to Haiti; as a Regan Fellow and Operation Smile mission volunteer; and at Bahia Children’s Community Center in Brazil and at the Bel Air Children’s Home in Grenada. Dr. Shams has also completed 14 Olympic-distance and half-Ironman triathlons.

 Amit Vashist, MD, MBA, CPE, FAPA, is Regional Medical Director, Hospitalist Division, at Mountain States. He oversees the hospitalist program at six facilities spanning two states. During his tenure, Johnston Memorial has been recognized nationally for its exceptional quality and safety. Among other accolades, Dr. Vashist led his team to improve sepsis care, garnering a President’s Award for quality. He has aligned the hospitalist division into a more efficient and effective team, initiating a multitude of efficiency measures which have reduced costs as well as length-of-stay, readmissions and mortality rates. Another key metric, order set usage, improved among hospitalists from 55 percent to 95 percent in just 60 days. Dr. Vashist has helped for several committees and forums that increase communication between hospitalists and other providers, and formed the MSHA Hospitalist Governance Steering Committee.

 Casey Wilbert, pharmacy clinical coordinator at JCMC, manages more than 25 team members and drives the clinical initiatives for the entire hospital. He has worked on several cost-saving initiatives that have saved the hospital more than $100,000 over the last year. He is also highly involved in the community by serving as a clinical preceptor for the Gatton College of Pharmacy at ESU, and he volunteers to speak to children at local schools. He has been involved in a number of research projects and publications to help impact patient care on a more global perspective, while locally he supports causes such as the Dragon Boat Festival, Niswonger Children’s Hospital Radiothon and United Way.
