She was hired on July 5, 1977.

A retirement celebration was held in her honor in the Tenasi Room on Jan. 20 that, just like Susie, won’t be forgotten for a long time.

The room was transformed into the Grand Ole Opry stage using props created by Seba Steed, executive assistant. HR director Kevin Smith, serving as emcee, had the honor of introducing the legendary Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash, (aka our very own Seba and Hilliary Phillips), who performed an original song titled “Nashville” to the tune of Cash and Carter’s 1967 hit single “Jackson,” paying homage to Susie for all the hard work and dedication she gave to Indian Path over the last 40 years.

There were mixed emotions as family, friends and co-workers gathered to say goodbye and good luck to Susie as she embarks on this next chapter of her life. Her son, Adam, and husband, Luther, were among those in attendance. Susie also has a daughter, Amy, and son-in-law, Jason, who live in Nashville and are the proud parents of Ian.

Susie said deciding to retire was a difficult decision, as she leaves behind many special co-workers and friends. While team members were sad to see her retire, they were thrilled that she will now get to spend more time with her family and as “Grammy” to her new grandbaby, Ian, in Nashville.
