Norton Community Hospital bids fond farewell to Dr. Parmod Sapra after his 42 years as pediatrician

Dr. Sapra was presented a gift of appreciation by Mark Leonard, hospital VP/CEO, at the reception.

WISE, Va. – Dr. Parmod Sapra is retiring as a longstanding pediatrician in the Wise County community after 42 dedicated years of practice on the campus of Norton Community Hospital.

Dr. Sapra began practicing pediatrics in Norton in 1975. He has cared for multiple generations of patients and said he’s felt blessed with a gift from God to provide care for the children in Southwest Virginia for so many years.

Norton Community Hospital hosted a retirement celebration on March 23 for team members and the public to attend to honor and congratulate Dr. Sapra for his many years of services. The event was filled with smiles and tears as many people said good bye to the well-respected physician.

Everyone at the celebration seemed to have a story or instance to share where Dr. Sapra had been helpful or kind to their child or grandchild.

“Dr. Sapra has been a pillar in our area’s pediatric community for over four decades,” said Mark Leonard, Norton Community Hospital CEO. “He will be greatly missed.”

Upon receiving a decorative bowl from Leonard as a parting gift, Dr. Sapra said he was humbled by the number of people who had stopped by to say goodbye and that he appreciated the support of Norton Community Hospital and the many team members he worked beside in the hospital over the years to take care of sick children. He also said his career would not have been possible without the support of his loving wife, Nilu.

Dr. Sapra and his wife plan to relocate to Northern Virginia to be closer to his children and grandchildren.
