Dr. Glen Hatcher earns Servant's Heart Award through quiet humility

The annual Servant’s Heart Award, Mountain States’ highest honor, recognizes those among our team members – from frontline to leadership, volunteers and physicians – who display the heart of a servant by following Mountain States’ philosophy of patient-centered care and by going above and beyond the normal call of duty to help others, both at work and in the community.

ELIZABETHTON, Tenn. – While most radiologists don’t spend a lot of time working directly with patients, their expertise behind the scenes is critical, and they collaborate with various other members of the care team to come up with the right diagnosis and treatment plan.

Dr. Glen Hatcher, diagnostic radiologist at Mountain States’ Tennessee facilities, is a 2017 Servant’s Heart Award winner in the physician category. He is with Mountain Empire Radiology and serves as medical director for the diagnostic imaging department at Sycamore Shoals Hospital, with a specialty in mammography interpretations to diagnose breast cancer at its earliest stages. Dr. Hatcher’s diligence, his quiet, humble nature and his ability to connect with everyone make him an especially effective radiologist.

“He is a pleasure to work with,” said one co-worker. “He has a humble, self-demeaning personality that makes him very approachable. He is well-liked by patients and staff alike. He has a consistent, understated tone, and when he does talk, people listen because they know it is going to be something important.”

He is often praised for his technical expertise and eye for detail in identifying and diagnosing breast cancer through X-rays and various digital scans. In addition, Dr. Hatcher is known for his dedication and work ethic, many times staying late as needed and going the extra mile. He has dedicated hundreds of hours in his leadership role as medical director and as a member of numerous committees over the years.

Dr. Guy Wheeler is a partner with Dr. Hatcher at Mountain Empire Radiology.

“He’s the kind of partner everyone wants to have,” Wheeler said. “If you’re his colleague, you can’t help but be his friend.”
