BlueCross BlueShield Junior Golf Day -- a free community event -- set for July 15 as part of Niswonger Classic

JONESBOROUGH, Tenn. – Get ready for a day of family fun at the BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee Junior Golf Day.

The second annual event is a part of the Niswonger Children’s Hospital Classic and offers different events and activities for the whole family. There will be interactive games, and representatives from the children’s hospital, Washington County Health Department and BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee will be there with information stations set up.

The free community event will take place on Saturday, July 15, from 2-6 p.m. at Blackthorn Club in The Ridges.

Junior golfers can enjoy a full day of competitions, clinics and exhibitions. Participants under the age of 18 will be able to test their skills in the regional qualifier for the Drive, Chip & Putt Championship for a chance to compete in the national event at Augusta National Golf Club, which is the day before the Masters Golf Tournament. There are a limited number of spots available for the competition, so preregistration is required. More than 150 golfers have already signed up. You can register at www.drivechipandputt.com. Also, junior golfers should bring their own clubs.

“We really want to encourage everyone to come out and have a great time at this year’s Junior Golf Day,” said Mike Hammontree, director of the Niswonger Children’s Hospital Classic. “This event is so much more than golf; it’s a perfect summer day for the entire family. And it’s a great way to support the Niswonger Children’s Hospital Classic.”

The Niswonger Children’s Hospital Classic is the Mountain States Foundation’s biggest annual fundraiser and benefits the region’s only children’s hospital.

The Classic kicked off on June 2 with Birdies for Bucks, and included a concert featuring award-winning performer Brian Culbertson and the signature golf tournament at The Olde Farm. The next community event for the 2017 Classic is Nine at Night, which takes place on August 18 at the Blackthorn Club. Event goers can compete in glow-in-the-dark golf games, a putting contest and other fun events. There will also be food, beverages and live music.
