Fit4Life 5K Glow Run and '80s Party coming up Aug. 11

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – The second annual Mountain States Fit4Life 5K Glow Run and ‘80s Party is coming up on Aug. 11. Last year’s event was a big hit, and once again, the entry fee for Mountain States team members will be waived.

The 5K course starts at The Wellness Center and goes around the Johnson City Med Tech Park area. The run starts at 8 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 11.

For more info or to register, visit the Fit4Life Glow Run site on the intranet. When you sign up, remember to use the code“Fit4Life” and receive free race registration as a Mountain States team member.

The race is being presented by Fit4Life, Mountain States’ team member wellness program.

“All our Fit4Life events encourage being active and having fun, so this really fits the bill,” said Candice Barnwell, director of human resources for Blue Ridge Medical Management Corporation and one of the race organizers. “People can run, walk, push strollers or even bring their dogs on a leash.

“It’s a very festive event. People are encouraged to dress up in ‘80s-themed outfits. Last year I think everybody really had a lot of fun.”

There will be pre-race music and warm-up activities, and after the run plenty of ‘80s-style glow items, a DJ and kid-friendly activities at The Wellness Center.

The 5K run starts just before sunset and runners and walkers finish in the dark. Regular entry fees are $25 through Aug. 9, and $30 on Aug. 10-11 during packet pickup.

Awards will be presented to the top overall finishers as well as top age group finishers. There are also prizes for best ‘80s costume, best team spirit and for the Mountain States facility with the most participants.

“We’re looking forward to another great event,” Barnwell said. “I hope our team members come out and enjoy this, and bring their friends and family.”
