Groundbreaking set on July 26 for new hospital in Unicoi County

The new hospital is slated to open in the fall of 2018.

ERWIN, Tenn. – It’s an exciting time in Unicoi County! Groundbreaking will take place for the new hospital on Wednesday, July 26, at 11 a.m., and team members and the general public are invited.

Construction will continue through the next year with a completion target of the fall of 2018.

The current Unicoi County Memorial Hospital has been in operation since 1953 and became part of Mountain States in November 2013, with an agreement to build a new facility by the end of 2018. The new hospital will be located at 2030 Temple Hill Road in Erwin, just off Interstate 26 at Exit 40 on the south side of Erwin.

It will have 20 total beds and offer the same services that are in the current hospital – 24/7 emergency services and inpatient monitoring, advanced diagnostic imaging, and laboratory and pharmacy services. The facility will feature all-new equipment in each of these clinical areas, with the hope of adding a few services. In addition, space will be built for more primary care and community education, as that’s a great need in Unicoi County.

The new facility and its picturesque location, set in the valley next to the Nolichucky River before a backdrop of mountains, will highlight the natural beauty of Unicoi County and provide state-of-the-art care in a healing atmosphere.
