KINGSPORT, Tenn. – We completed one more year participating in Fun Fest, and I am proud to say that Indian Path Medical Center was a big part of the festivities.

On Saturday, July 8, the Fort Henry Mall was the place to “Party On!” as the Indian Path Health Resources Center held their sixth annual Official Fun Fest Block Party. Excitement filled the air as over 300 members of the community came out to celebrate. Participants enjoyed tasty, nutritious Greek yogurt and fruit parfaits while listening to former Mountain States team member Jim Hunter and his bluegrass band, Rockingham Road, who played a variety of familiar songs. “Butterfly” from the Jonesborough Storytellers Guild entertained the group with a few tales during the band’s break. There were giveaways and door prizes for all ages. This year’s Fun Fest chairman, Carolos Carvajal, and Fun Fest Director Lucy Fleming joined in the fun along with many other Fun Fest committee members.

With help from the Indian Path marketing team of Lori Crisp and Scott Christian, the HRC team kicked off the 2017 Fun Fest season with a bang! Angie Dishner, RN; Tanja Fuccio, RN; Lisa Rice, RN; Crystal West, RDN; and Laurel McKinney, RN, manager, make up the Indian Path HRC team.

At the Fun Fest Sponsors’ Breakfast, Lisa Williams was announced as next year’s Fun Fest chair! This will make the third time that an Indian Path team member has served in this capacity.

Fun Fest officially began on Friday night, July 14, and the Indian Path team rocked the Fun Fest parade with an ‘80s-themed float. Team members pumped up the crowd with serious ‘80s jam and attire. From Boy George to Miami Vice’s Don Johnson, the team members brought an authentic ‘80s feel backed up by music from Madonna, Michael Jackson, Duran Duran and more.

The Indian Path team was back at it Saturday night for the annual Crazy 8s Race which IPMC has been a title sponsor of for the past 20 years. Again, the race was sponsored by Indian Path Medical Center and Niswonger Children’s Hospital with IPMC team members volunteering throughout the event. Beginning early Saturday morning, team members came out to hang all of the sponsor banners that stretched the length of the stadium. As evening fell and into the early hours of Sunday morning, Indian Path stepped up again by presenting medals at the finish line and taking down the sponsor banners at the conclusion of the race. A big “thank you” to everyone who helped make this year’s Crazy 8s a fun and successful event!

The fun really went into high gear on Monday, July 17, with the Xtreme Challenge at Kid’s Central, a three-day event which challenges kids to get out and move by offering fun field games and obstacle courses. Our very own Tessa Malone organized the event and created some awesome new games this year. Well over 1,000 kids participated in the Xtreme Challenge events and despite near record high temperatures, the kids and volunteers involved had a blast.

The fun continued on Friday and Saturday with the Hot Air Balloon Rally where

Indian Path’s banner was proudly displayed.

Many of our IPMC team members volunteered or participated in so many of the events and were an integral part of the success of this annual event. It makes me so proud to be part of an organization that is so involved in the Kingsport community.

Thank you!
