It's a doggie social: JMH says thank you to pet therapy dogs, handlers

ABINGDON, Va. – Johnston Memorial Hospital held a pet therapy dog celebration and Blessing of the Animals last week. It was a way to have a little fun plus say thanks to the pet therapy volunteers for the important role they play in helping patients and families as well as team members.

Pet therapy dogs and handlers got together behind the dining area between the Regional Cancer Center and the main hospital for fun, fellowship and light refreshments. See some really cute photos here!

The pet therapy dogs and handlers, all trained and certified, are a key part of many patients’ hospital experience. They’re able to calm patients, families and hardworking team members during times of stress and help bring a smile to their faces. Just one touch of a therapy dog’s head and many patients see their blood pressure relax a little.

Thank you to our pet therapy dogs and handlers, who are part of our Mountain States auxiliary and volunteer services! For more information on pet therapy at Mountain States, email or call 423-431-2325.
