Niswonger Children’s Hospital Scarecrow Skedaddle set for Oct. 21

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – It’s almost time for the third annual Niswonger Children’s Hospital Scarecrow Skedaddle. On Oct. 21 at 9:30 a.m., the day of family fun and fitness begins!

The event takes place at East Tennessee State University’s campus near the Mountain States Health Alliance Athletic Center (Mini Dome). The ceremony begins promptly at 9:30 a.m., and then racers will hit the road.

The modified race is designed for those athletes that may require the use of hand-held assistance, walkers, wheelchairs, power chairs or even a personal coach. The course will be approximately 200 yards. Each participant will be accompanied by a buddy for the length of the race.

After the modified race, there will be a 5K race and 1 mile fun run/walk. There is a $10 dollar race fee. Children ages 12 and younger who are registered for the Scarecrow Skedaddle will receive a runner’s bib, t-shirt and a participant award (until supplies run out).

Immediately after the races, the Scarecrow Skedaddle Shindig will begin inside the Mini Dome. The free, family-friendly Shindig features fun activities, like face painting, a scavenger hunt, and vendor tables filled with educational materials.

Since the Scarecrow Skedaddle takes place around Halloween, there will also be a costume contest. Kids, families and volunteers are encouraged to dress in their favorite costumes. Prizes will be handed out to those wearing the best costumes.

To register, visit www.ScarecrowSkedaddle.com. Scholarships are available for children who qualify. For more information, email Tara Chadwell at tara.chadwell@msha.com
