Important merger update from CEO Alan Levine: Transitioning from two systems into one

Dear Colleague:

With the State of Tennessee and Commonwealth of Virginia having now approved the proposed merger between Wellmont Health System and Mountain States Health Alliance, our attention turns to transitioning from two health systems into Ballad Health. Yesterday, a transition team was appointed and tasked with the responsiAlan Levine, Mountain States President/CEObility of addressing the key issues that need to be addressed prior to closing. We remain committed to closing on the merger in early 2018.

Below are links to two memorandums which were distributed to management. The first memorandum announces the appointment of the transition team, and it contains an organizational structure for the transition. The people appointed to lead the transition have been authorized to act on behalf of Ballad Health during this transition period, and you may hear more from them directly as we move forward.  Importantly, the transition team organizational structure is not the organizational structure for Ballad Health, but merely for the transition. As we get closer to the closing of the merger, the permanent organizational structure will be announced. In the meantime, reporting structures within Wellmont and Mountain States remain as they have been, while the transition team will be focused on issues specific to Ballad Health.

The second memorandum outlines our cultural expectations for management during the transition and thereafter. Our goal is to institute a culture for Ballad Health based on respect for each other, integrity in what we do, and helping each other to be successful in achieving our goals for the organization. Wellmont and Mountain States are great organizations, but as we move forward, we must move forward as one new system, with the goal of honoring those we serve by delivering the best possible care and improving the health and well-being of our communities. We are excited about this mission.

Thank you for all you do. I hope this information is helpful to you. We'll attempt to keep you informed as we make progress toward closing.

Alan
