Sharon won first place – and $500 – with her Skirt Steak Chili Lime Pineapple Salsa Wrap and Grilled Chicken.

Sharon is a nurse in the intensive care unit/critical care unit at RCMC.

“Congratulations to Sharon and to all our winners,” said Rachel Bishop, HRIS director, who was one of the event organizers. “The event was fun, we had some great dishes, and we hope this helps open people’s eyes about how something like tailgating food can be tasty but still be healthy.”

Facility Throwdowns were held across Mountain States, with winners receiving $100, and those winners competed in a System Throwdown at Indian Path Medical Center to determine the overall winner.

The competition was put on by Fit4Life, the Mountain States wellness program. Each competitor’s dish had to be healthy tailgating food, and participants were required to give the recipe with a complete list of ingredients and accurate measurements for each. Submissions were judged on ingredients, presentation and taste.

Other winners were:

Second place – Kim Jessee, RN, nurse manager at the Franklin Woods ICU, with a Plant-based Chili & Cornbread with Vegan Snickers, $250 prize

Third place  (Tie) Shiloh Loveless, patient access supervisor at Johnson County Community Hospital (Turkey Chili); and Tina Ports, medical lab tech from Smyth County Community Hospital/Francis Marion Manor (Chips and Salsa), $50 apiece

Other facility winners – Valerie Bradley, rehab services coordinator at Unicoi County Memorial Hospital (Buffalo Chicken Lettuce Wraps); and Cathy Sproles, RN, MCC scheduling at Sycamore Shoals.
