Giving Tuesday is less than a week away; would you donate to support Helping Hands?

Let's help people in our community!

Giving Tuesday, coming up Tuesday, Nov. 28, is a globally recognized day of giving that follows up on Thanksgiving, Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Mountain States Foundation is using Giving Tuesday to support the Helping Hands program to benefit patients and families who need financial help while receiving medical care.

The foundation's Giving Tuesday campaign is collecting money and clothes to support Helping Hands. While donations have been accepted all month, the big day is next Tuesday.

Funds from Helping Hands are used to buy gas/transportation vouchers, meals, hotel vouchers, some clothing and prescriptions not covered by insurance. All 14 of our Mountain States hospitals have a Helping Hands program, and just over 1,800 patients were assisted last year through this program.

Here’s how you can help:

You can give online:

You can give via text: Text GIVELOCAL to 243725 to donate.

You can give by eating at Barberito’s: On Giving Tuesday, Nov. 28, Barberito’s on Peoples Street in Johnson City is donating 20 percent of sales from 5-9 p.m. if you mention Giving Tuesday, Helping Hands or Mountain States Foundation.

You can also donate clothes: The campaign is also accepting new and “like new” donations such as short- and long-sleeve t-shirts, sweatpants and sweatshirts, and slip-on shoes. There are drop-off locations at almost all of our hospitals as well as at the Harry L. Coomes Recreation Center in Abingdon, Virginia, and at Memorial Park Community Center in Johnson City.

Here’s a short video on YouTube featuring Sycamore Shoals team member Charmaine Woodby, patient resource manager, who sees on a regular basis how important the Helping Hands program is to patients.

The Helping Hands fund supports patients and families who are often going through some of the toughest times of their lives. Even small things like assistance with gas money or prescriptions can make a huge difference. It relieves not just a financial burden but a mental burden, as well.

Please consider giving a donation of money or clothes to the Helping Hands program during Giving Tuesday, and thank you for your generosity!
