It's Giving Tuesday; would you support our Helping Hands program?

Today’s the day – it’s Giving Tuesday. The Mountain States Foundation is again participating in this national day of giving by raising funds for the Helping Hands program. Helping Hands assists local patients and families being cared for at Mountain States hospitals who need financial help – funding things like gas/transportation vouchers, meals, hotel vouchers, some clothing and prescriptions not covered by insurance.

All 14 of our Mountain States hospitals have a Helping Hands program, and more than 1,800 patients benefited from this program last year.

How can you give today?

  • You can donate online. Click here for more information or to make a donation.
  • You can help by eating out tonight at Barberito’s on Peoples Street in Johnson City. The restaurant is donating 20 percent of sales from 5-9 p.m. today, if you mention Giving Tuesday, Helping Hands or Mountain States Foundation.
  • You can give via text: Text GIVELOCAL to 243725 to donate.

We’re also accepting donations of new and “like new” donations such as short- and long-sleeve t-shirts, sweatpants and sweatshirts, and slip-on shoes. There are drop-off locations at almost all of our hospitals as well as at the Harry L. Coomes Recreation Center in Abingdon, Virginia, and at Memorial Park Community Center in Johnson City.

The people we support through Helping Hands are often going through some of the toughest times of their lives. Even small things like assistance with gas money or prescriptions can make a huge difference to them, relieving not just a financial burden but a burden on the mind, as well.
